Waldorf Education

Waldorf education offers a developmentally appropriate approach that unites social and artistic work with rigorous academics. Story and music engage students and make mathematical concepts visible. Painting and drama bring language and cultural studies to life. Time spent outdoors observing nature makes science meaningful and inspires a deep connection between the child and the world that is their home. These experiences spark wonder and curiosity to enhance fexibility in thinking.

Founded in the early 20th century, Waldorf education is based on the work of the world renowned artist and scientist, Rudolf Steiner. The principles of Waldorf education evolve from an understanding of human development and the needs of every growing child as a being of body, soul and spirit deserving of respect and love.

Relationships nurtured over several years between parents and teachers, teachers and students, foster a deep understanding of each child’s needs and abilities. Children come together through outdoor play and practical projects to cultivate empathy, resilience and a sense of purpose. Through these experiences, Waldorf students develop their intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual capacities to be individuals ready to fulfill their potential in service to the world.

MWS is one of hundreds of Waldorf schools around the world and a Full Member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA).

All three of my children have attended this school from kindergarten through eighth grade. When I learned about the play based early years, the emphasis on beauty, the depth of the curriculum as the years progress, and the amount of time they play outside, I was hooked. It’s the perfect fit for my family — all of us a combination of high achieving individuals who also value the slower pace of childhood.
