Community Life Parents find they gain a strong community life when their children are part of the school. Volunteerism is consciously woven into the school. Parents are deeply involved in both the philosophical and administrative tasks of the school. Because of the nature of Waldorf governance with it broad inclusion of community voices, the school is always filled with the exciting undercurrents of dialogues to find the proper balance between the practical and the desired. These discussions reflect into the curriculum and color the contents, keeping the curriculum living, vital and relevant to the current community. Family life is supported with plays, recitals and a strong festival year with rich connections to history and nature. (See the slide show at right). With the added support of parent education, the school community begins to provide parents the opportunity to re-establish the stability and support of the old extended family. The Meadowbrook Parent Association (MPA) nurtures relationships between parents and provides a forum for parent voices in institutional decision-making. The MPA sponsors events throughout the year for parent education and support. See the mission statement at the right. John Krug Convenor of the MPA |
MPA Mission Statement "The Meadowbrook Parents Association is a group of parents who have consciously chosen to support the life of the school so that Waldorf education will have a certain and secure future at the Meadowbrook School. Volunteerism is the heart of the Meadowbrook Parents Association. It is recognized that through volunteering, the parents’ work is woven into the soul of the children’s education and that through participation in the life of the school, the fruits of Waldorf education become available to the parents." |
